In India during the British period, Urdu was made the official language in the Indian courts. This was in blatant disregard to the majority of Hindu Indians and they also propped up the Muislim minority.
Since then the movie world also had a lot of the actors and actresses who were muslim. This was primarily due to the fact that the Hindus were too orthodox and would not consider a career in the movie world (except fot a few). This along with patronage of the British the indians began to consider Urdu as the language of the Movies.
Hindus started taking pride in learning and reciting Gazals etc.. All the songs were written by muslim writers, scripts also had dominance of Urdu and soon Urdu started penetrating all spheres of our lives. Movies do control the minds of our people and influence the young & th old alike. It is a powerful media instrument.
Today in US I know of an acquaintance who named her daughter Hasina, and many years later she realized her mistake. She says that it is too late to change the name and what's in a name anyway.
