CONGRESS VISIBLY SITS ON MUSLIM PLATFORMS BUT NEVER ON ANY HINDU OR SIKH PLATFORM. CAN'T WE DEDUCE WHY? ................===================== Sonia eyes Muslim vote at Jamait meet NDTV Correspondent Monday, May 30, 2005 (New Delhi): The issue of divorce of Muslim women dominated the conference called by the Jamait-Ulema-e-Hind in Delhi. But Congress President Sonia Gandhi's presence at the meet gave it a political colour. On the final day of the Jamait meet about 20 resolutions were passed, which ranged from women's rights to the release of people held under POTA. Other resolutions included providing a law for preventing riots and the need to provide a quota for Muslims in various government jobs and educational institutions. Common aims Gandhi's presence in the meet was an indication of her support towards their demands. "The aims and visions of the Congress and the Jamait are alike and both want the development of the country," said Sonia Gandhi. The Jamait claims it has the support of over 1 crore people and can reach out to about 3 crore Muslims. This is probably the reason why Congress has for long been promising reservation to Muslims and has stood for promoting the Urdu language. The Congress has also raised fingers on the BJP, calling it a communal and a saffronised party. "Justice is not just a term but it is the basic necessity of our lives. In its absence, it makes life very tough to live," said Gandhi. Making her presence felt in the rally, Sonia Gandhi expressed her will to extend full cooperation to the Jamait and used the event to get Muslim support, which she requires to form a government in Bihar. ...........................000000000
