Man divorces via mail///////////////// PTI /////////// Thursday, July 06, 2006 18:44 IST///////////// http://www.sulekha.com/news/nhc.aspx?cid=453628 ////////////// GHAZIABAD: A Muslim man has divorced his wife, who refused to live with him because of the way he dressed, by writing her a letter with the words ‘talaq, talaq, talaq'. /////////// Farzana, who has been living with her parents here for four months, recently received the letter from her husband Siraj, said Superintendent of Police Ashfaq Ahmad, who is chairman of the Family Disputes Settlement Committee. //////////// Ahmad said Siraj had sent Rs 2,250 as the 'meher' or alimony for Farzana. ///////////// Farzana, who came to the FDSC office to discuss the matter, showed officials the letter. She admitted that she did not like the way Siraj dressed, saying he usually wore kurta pyjamas in the ‘Deobandi style’. ////////////// Ahmad said he had consulted senior Muslim clerics, who confirmed that the divorce was final when Farzana opened the letter and read the words ‘talaq, talaq, talaq’. /////////////////// (talaq=divorce)///////////000000000
