YSR Congress chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy, on an indefinite hunger strike to protest against the formation of a separate Telangana, was on Wednesday night evicted from the site where he and his supporters have been holding fast, and taken to the hospital on the fifth day of his fast as there were concerns regarding his health.

According to reports, Jagan has been taken to Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences.

At about 11 PM, police had broken through the barricades set up outside Jagan's residence - site of the fast - and taken Jagan into preventive custody before sending him to NIMS. Jagan's supporters offered little resistance. A party leader said they wanted Jagan to regain fitness and lead the party again.

Doctors had advised Jagan to call off the fast as his sugar level was falling, a senior party leader said. "Our party president Jaganmohan Reddy's fast has entered the fifth day. His sugar level is falling and doctors have strongly advised him to withdraw the fast," YSRCP senior leader Konatala Ramakrishna said.

Jagan has been protesting the decision to create Telangana as a move by the UPA government to garner political mileage before the 2014 General Elections and prepare Rahul Gandhi as the Congress' choice for Prime Minister.
