Man fined in Switzerland for saying “Allahu akbar”
Swiss police have defended fining a man who said “Allahu akbar” in public.
The man, named only as Orhan E, a Turkish speaker, said the phrase, which translates as “God is the greatest”, to show his happiness after seeing a friend in the street.
He was then approached by a police officer, who fined him 150 Swiss francs (Pounds GB 120), plus 60 francs in administrative charges. The incident happened in May 2018 but has come to light after the man, 22, made his case public.
