INDIAN POLICEMEN PATROL A DESERTED STREET DURING STRIKE CALLED BY LIBERATION GROUPS ON INDIA'S INDEPENDENCE DAY

ISLAMABAD: Mobile phones fell silent across the Kashmir Valley on Thursday after authorities jammed the cellular service.
Mobile phones from various service providers fell silent across the Valley as Kashmiris on both sides of Line of Control observed India's Independence Day as Black Day, KMS reported.
The day has marked by complete shutdown in Indian administered Kashmir, call for which has been given by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the veteran Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Gilani, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik, and other pro-liberation leaders, KMS added in its report.
Authorities placed stringent restrictions in Srinagar and other towns of Indian administered Kashmir to prevent people from holding anti-India demonstrations.
Amid complete shutdown, a large number of Indian troops and police personnel patrolled the deserted roads and streets.
Mobile phone service across the Valley was suspended on 15th August last year as well.
The authorities Thursday directed service providers to withdraw Internet facilities on mobile phones.
Internet services are, however, available on broadband at very low speed.
